What kind of wood do you use?

Discover the beauty of old reclaimed wood, featuring thick planks predominantly made from pine, oak, ash, and the occasional cherry. Each piece tells a unique story, showcasing the character and warmth that only time can impart. Perfect for sustainable projects, this wood not only adds rustic charm but also contributes to eco-friendly living. If you need something different or more specific, feel free to let us know!

Why are your doors more expensive than the "home centers?"

We take pride in crafting each door by hand, ensuring unique quality and attention to detail. Our doors are significantly thicker, at least 1.75 inches, compared to the standard 1.38 inches or thinner options. While thinner doors may serve a functional purpose for some, we cater to customers who value durability and craftsmanship above all. See below for information comparing theirs to ours.

Our prices account for the mock-ups, proper hardware, door and hardware supports, installation time and extras. We have had dozens of  customers over the years come to us to fix bad installations such as sagging doors, improper mounting boards, doors that were not sized correctly, and improperly spec'ed wheels.

Can I choose my own hardware?

We offer high-quality custom wheels, brackets, and tracks designed specifically for your needs. While you have the option to choose your own supplier, we recommend our hardware as it is engineered to fit heavier, thicker, and custom doors seamlessly. Trust us to provide the right components for optimal functionality and style.

How do I stop a door from rolling too far?

Unlike most kits that lack quality stoppers, we provide reliable track stop and roller guides to prevent sway and ensure optimal stability. Choose us for a secure and stylish solution that elevates your space and won't damage your walls or trim.

5

I have my own contractor. Can they install your doors?

We love working with the proper contractors and designers. We'll communicate with you and your contractor (or design team) what will be needed for a successful installation. These are perfect examples of us  supplying "slabs" or doors and having your team manage the installation.

"Theirs to Ours"

These kits do look nice. They also appear to have everything you need to complete your barn door project! They market these nationwide and make it look easy to do yourself. So what’s the problem?

The metal is often of a less quality, if it’s even real steel. They use many plastic parts where some of these should be metal for strength and quality. It is mass-produced and while it is powder coated (often to be black) you need to modify or get extra parts to complete most door projects and so you will never find the right fittings without extra work, time, and money. They don’t tell you about that.

The hardware is made for thin doors. Typically, no greater than about 1-3/4” thick. These types of doors are often made from fake wood, MDF, or prefabbed or even hollow slabs. If it is real wood, it is often new stock pine or other, and it will warp and twist once you hang it in your home unless you take time to dry the wood and let it acclimate in your home for some time. You still have to buy this and assemble the doors, and then install everything properly.

The kits come with spacers and lag bolts. The spacers are often made from plastic and they are not very long. The bolts they provide are often not strong enough to really hold everything up. Everything relies on the installer to mount a beam or ledger up top first. These pictures do not have those. Not everyone likes this look but even if you do, this is an extra step most are not prepared for and it is really easy to position that wood element incorrectly, and then you have a mess on your hands!
