Rustic vs Smooth
Smooth Slab (Door)
These slabs are hand-crafted in our Amesbury, MA workshop. Machined planed wood, often referred to as Planed Square Edge (PSE), is rough-sawn lumber passed through a machine planer to create smooth, consistent, and dimensionally accurate surfaces. This process removes rough outer layers, knots, and inconsistencies, making it ideal for barn door slabs. We have hand-cut our rough-sawn time-dried local sawmill pine stock and planed to specific thicknesses for premium door slab construction. Final slabs are built plumb and true, and flat

Rustic Slab (Door)
This wood was not run through a smoothing planer but instead, it was used to assemble with rough surfaces making it ideal for rustic barn doors that celebrate the character, saw marks, blemishes, and features that evoke the aged wood look. We have hand-cut our rough-sawn time-dried local sawmill pine stock and build with specific thicknesses for premium door construction. Final slabs are built plumb and flat; however, it should be noted that pine construction can have slight variations and may not lay perfectly flat.
